Thanks to all who attended the August 2008 meeting of the Acadiana Open Source Group. Matthew Turland's presentation on the development of PHP-based web services using the Zend Framework was well-attended, particularly by UL students returning for the Fall semester. Thanks to UL Computer Science Department for hosting the meeting.
Announcements:
- The Acadiana .NET User Group will hold a meeting on Thursday August 28 at LEDA beginning at 6 PM. The topic of the presentation is "Embrace Open Source on Codeplex" and details Microsoft's open source project hosting web site.
- The annual Zend PHP Conference and Expo will be held September 15-18 in Santa Clara, CA and its session schedule will include a presentation by one of our members, Matthew Turland.
- The next meeting of the Acadiana Open Source Group is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday September 24 at 6:30 PM with a presentation on popular open source content management systems. The location and further details will be announced closer to the meeting date.
- The Lafayette CampFiber will be held Saturday October 4 at the Travis Technology Center. It will include a segment for developers to discuss the technologies and platforms they use and potential impact of the LUSFiber project on their innovations. Admission is free but seating is limited, so register soon.
- This year's ApacheCon will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans November 3-7. Early bird registration ends on Friday August 29, so register soon if you plan to attend.
- A combined php|works / PyWorks 2008 Conference will be held November 12-14 in Atlanta, GA and its schedule was recently announced.
